Harper’s Island Withdrawals!
I’m seriously going through Harper’s Island withdrawals! I can’t live without it! I don’t know what I’m gonna do in July when the last episode airs! GRRR! Mike and I both are addicted to that show like you wouldn’t believe. Luckily, we have Harper’s Globe to make up for it, although there haven’t been any new clips over the last few days, so hopefully something comes out soon!
I took a shower a bit ago and got all squeaky clean. I ran to Rocker’s for some food and now I’m just killing time with a bit of music.
I’m debating going to Las Vegas at some point in the near future. Well, by near future I mean mosre like this fall…Maybe November? I don’t know though. A round trip ticket out of Bismarck is about $180, and Hotel deals are amazing right now, some right on the strip for $30-$80 per night.
We’ll see…
CRABS!
Quiet Week
I got home in time to see the Boston Bruins…lose
This week has been quiet, which is why I haven’t posted many updates. I don’t even really have much to talk about tonight either but I had to post something to prove I was still alive and functioning.
Umm, so yeah, that’s about it. Not sure about plans for this weekend except to drink Saturday night, lol. Gotta love Mike Hard Mixed Berry!
Cool Ranch Doritos
Ear Infection
The other morning I woke up with a nice surprise! I couldn’t hear much of anything out of my left ear! Isn’t that wonderful?! Kidding aside, I thought it might just have needed to pop or something so I put it off …until today. I went to go blow my nose and POOF…no more sound! It was so weird walking around all day after with only my right ear working, lol…so I went to the clinic downtown and saw the ear, nose and throat specialist…he took one look inside my ear and shouted “yep, it’s infected!” I quickly jumped up and let out a big ol’ “YES”! No, not really, but I did get a shit ton of prescriptions to take for the next 10 days. It pretty much classifies me as a walking pharmacy until it goes away.
No more 3-day weekend…but that’s ok!
How to be a good wife…
Here’s something interesting that I found posted online recently. We actually learned about this in one of my college History courses at UMA – and I decided to look it up and post it for you all. It’s an ACTUAL ‘guide to being a good wife’ that was published in a Home Economics high school textbook in 1954, and I believe it was first printed in some magazines beforehand. Take a look:
- Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal, on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed.
- Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so that you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Be a little gay and a little more interesting. His boring day may need a lift.
- Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the home just before your husband arrives, gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc. Then run a dust cloth over the tables. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift, too.
- Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children’s hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair, and if necessary change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part.
- Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer, dishwasher, or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and be glad he is home.
- Some don’ts: Don’t greet him with problems or complaints. Don’t complain if he is late for dinner. Count this as minor compared with what he might have gone through that day. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or suggest he lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soft, soothing and pleasant voice. Allow him to relax and unwind.
- Listen to him. You may have a dozen things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first.
- Make the evening his. Never complain if he does not take you out to dinner or to other places of entertainment. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure, his need to be home and relax.
- The Goal: Try to make your home a place of peace and order where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.
Change of Command
I just got back from my Commander’s farewell dinner. He’s actually leaving the base in July but the Change of Command is tomorrow. It was pretty nice, a lot of talking, as expected, but nice overall. I wish I wasn’t so full to begin with because the food was amazing!
Tomorrow is the last day before a 3-day weekend for me, once again. It’s so nice to have the manpower to be able to get 3-day weekends, that’s for sure!
End of a Long Weekend
I got some new course material in the mail today. I had to run to the post office earlier this afternoon to pick it up. Then I dropped by the BX to see what’s new…and nothing was as usual. I picked up some tacos from TB, ate, then went downtown to see if Best Buy had any good camcorder deals. I’ll probably go with another Sony Handycam like I had before I moved out here, but I’m still not sure. I need to pick up some good movie editing software to go along with it.
I ate at the dining facility this evening, then came back to the dorm to lounge out for the night. It’s back to work at 6am tomorrow morning…
