From the Worst to the Best
Minot Air Force Base is located about 13 miles north of the city of Minot, ND. It’s an about 2 hours north of Bismarck, ND, and about 3-4 hours west of Grand Forks, ND and Fargo, ND. Of the 4 Major cities I have just listed, Minot is the smallest with about 38,000 people living here. We have a major housing crisis here in the city. The crisis, is that we have no houses left to purchase! Real estate here in Minot is dirt cheap, and with the population boom happening, the city can’t build houses/apartments fast enough to keep up. Winter temperatures regularly drop to about 40°-55° below zero, with a wind chill. We don’t have an Olive Garden restaurant. We have a shitty selection of radio stations to choose from. I could go on and on about all the negative things that make this the worst place in America to live….
However, there are two reason why Minot could be the best place to live in America….
Mello Yello and Welch’s strawberry soda.
I haven’t had Mello Yello in close to a decade since Maine did away with it a while ago. And, the same with Welch’s strawberry soda. This is amazing, and truly shocking to me. I’ve died and gone to heaven!
Today I worked a day shift, which lasted about an hour longer than I thought it would because I forgot we had a test to take today. I was so paranoid about taking it since it was over stuff I hadn’t even started to train on yet. I ended up missing just one question for a score in the high 90′s. Luckily we were able to talk and help each other out…so we pulled together and got it done - and everyone passed. Some people have to go back in tomorrow morning to open so the Russian military can leave. They’re on base for a couple days to inspect our nukes, which is something they are required to do every so often because of a treaty/agreement signed back at the end of the Cold War. The agreement allows us to do the same in their country. It just helps each side ensure we are both complying with the rules set in place for the agreement. After work, I went grocery shopping. I now have a 3-day weekend to enjoy!
Now, please excuse me while I finish this delicious strawberry soda. I think I could marry it someday.
