Halloween 2008
It’s that time of the year again…Halloween!
Back home, it’s also retro night tonight! Jennifer and Stephen are going dressed up for the costume party they said. I can’t wait to get the pictures from that!
Ghost Hunters LIVE is tonight!
Here on base, the Russians left this morning – and I can’t imagine what they were thinking when they saw half the base dressed in costumes…
I had to go buy new socks to wear with my combat boots today. They don’t last very long. I also had to go to the post office to pick up the pen that Mike Breslin sent to me to make up for the wrong pen he made a couple weeks ago. This one is amazing also.
Have a GREAT Halloween!
From the Worst to the Best
Minot Air Force Base is located about 13 miles north of the city of Minot, ND. It’s an about 2 hours north of Bismarck, ND, and about 3-4 hours west of Grand Forks, ND and Fargo, ND. Of the 4 Major cities I have just listed, Minot is the smallest with about 38,000 people living here. We have a major housing crisis here in the city. The crisis, is that we have no houses left to purchase! Real estate here in Minot is dirt cheap, and with the population boom happening, the city can’t build houses/apartments fast enough to keep up. Winter temperatures regularly drop to about 40°-55° below zero, with a wind chill. We don’t have an Olive Garden restaurant. We have a shitty selection of radio stations to choose from. I could go on and on about all the negative things that make this the worst place in America to live….
However, there are two reason why Minot could be the best place to live in America….
Mello Yello and Welch’s strawberry soda.
I haven’t had Mello Yello in close to a decade since Maine did away with it a while ago. And, the same with Welch’s strawberry soda. This is amazing, and truly shocking to me. I’ve died and gone to heaven!
Today I worked a day shift, which lasted about an hour longer than I thought it would because I forgot we had a test to take today. I was so paranoid about taking it since it was over stuff I hadn’t even started to train on yet. I ended up missing just one question for a score in the high 90′s. Luckily we were able to talk and help each other out…so we pulled together and got it done - and everyone passed. Some people have to go back in tomorrow morning to open so the Russian military can leave. They’re on base for a couple days to inspect our nukes, which is something they are required to do every so often because of a treaty/agreement signed back at the end of the Cold War. The agreement allows us to do the same in their country. It just helps each side ensure we are both complying with the rules set in place for the agreement. After work, I went grocery shopping. I now have a 3-day weekend to enjoy!
Now, please excuse me while I finish this delicious strawberry soda. I think I could marry it someday.
Non-Interesting
Hello! Not much to really talk about today. I did a little bit of training early on during the day, but then we got busy after about 9am. The day went by pretty quickly. I work again tomorrow but then I have the 3-day weekend!
The weather was gorgeous today. We had a high of about 70° and tomorrow is supposed to be in the high 60′s.
I’ll probably sneak in a shower tonight and then relax a bit. I’m watching the last few innings of game 5 of the World Series. It looks like the Phillies may just pull this thing off tonight….but who knows!
Yo
Well, let’s see here…I worked today from 6am until about 12:30pm, then I had to go to my Records Management class which lasted until about 3:45pm. I’m now certified to take over the records and filing program for my office. Hopefully everything will work out the way it’s planned. This morning, as soon as I stepped into the office, we started to get busy. The pilots were all filing their flight plans early, because we had seven B-52′s launch. The Airfield Manager and I sat on the airfield for 2 1/2 hours while everything took place, just in case something happened that needed our attention. We also found out today that we are getting a 3-day weekend! We are going to be closed on Friday, which means I’ll get too see ALL of Ghost Hunters LIVE starting in the evening! It’s going to be 7 hours straight!
And, apparently I’m supposed to be going to like 2 parties on Saturday…but I’m sure I’ll just choose one, if I even decide to go. If I do, it’ll probably be Senior Airman V’s party since he’s deploying in a few days. I’m not dressing up, though…lol.
A girl from high school looked me up and found me on Myspace. Her name is Sasha. We used to know each other pretty well early on, but as the years went by, we never really talked too much. It’s good to know how she is these days though.
Joke from my friend Kindra: “96% of all Americans yell ‘OH SHIT’ while driving into a ditch. The other 4% are from North Dakota and say “hold my beer and WATCH THIS SHIT!”
That’s all folks!
Memories, all alone in the moonlight…
Hey everyone! I’m sorry I didn’t get around to posting anything yesterday.
I’ve done two 12-hour shifts now in a row, and finally tomorrow it’s back to a normal schedule. Tomorrow is gonna be exciting, because we have to launch seven B-52′s in a row, 30 seconds apart from each other, as part of an exercise we’re doing. I can’t wait!
It looks like I’ve finally gotten back into contact with an old friend! Pat and I used to work together at Wally World before I quit earlier this year. We had our little clan of people who’d go out every weekend dancing, and he played bodyguard for me for a couple weeks because of a certain issue, lol.
Pat!

So anyway, Pat and our friend Athena both think I should get back in touch with a girl I was interested in before I left Maine in March. I don’t know…we’ll see I guess. It’s not like much could probably come of it since I’m so far away, but it would never hurt to get back in touch when I come back for Christmas either. I just sent Pat a few pictures of a retro night we went too back in February. Ahhh, the memories! Such as…
Karen! Beckie! Mattie!
Champions!
Jennifer and Stephen!
Pat and his best friend Corona!
Beckie! Jen! Pat! Athena!
Global Strike Command
I just found out that the command I am currently under in the Air Force will be changing. We are currently part of the ‘Air Combat Command’, or ‘ACC’ for short. By next September, we’ll be called the ‘Global Strike Command’. The GSC is taking over all parts of the nuclear mission so it’s better organized. Right now, the nuclear aspects of the Air Force are split into many different areas and commands, so it’s hard to keep track of everything and keep it running smoothly…so with this change, it should be a lot better. Not much will change as far as our day-to-day jobs, however. Here’s the link for the rest of the article…

Saw V
This afternoon I went and watched the new ‘Saw’ movie. I enjoyed it a lot, although it was probably the most predictable movie of the series to date. I think the previews gave a lot of the movie away unintentionally. There also were not nearly as many ‘twists’ throughout the movie as there have been in the past, which led to quick ending. Typically, the endings include a 30-60 second montage of the different twists throughoutthe movie, in an order that helps make the movie make sense, but this movie only included a short 10-second or so montage with information we pretty much already had figured out during the movie. Overall, I’m not able to picture how a 6thmovie will turn out, simply because the ending of this one doesn’t leave anyone else to carry on with the ‘games’. However, Dr. Gordon, from the very first movie, still might not be dead – and we haven’t heard much more about him since he limped away at the end of that particular movie. I guess I’ll wait for another year and see!
My Short 10-Hour Nap…
Typically, I would have posted by now – but accidentally taking a 10-hour nap prevented this from happening…
Work was good. I did a lot of training today and got some of that over with. We had a “suspicious package’ emergency for about 10-minutes, so it got a bit exciting for a little while with that. Nothing came of it though.
After I ate my late lunch, I laid down for a ’2-hour’ nap….and then proceeded to wake up at 2:30am. Right now it’s 4:16am.
Later on today I’m going to the theater to see the new ‘Saw V’ movie. I have really big expectations for it, so it better not let me down!
And, “Cocobolo” is turning out to be a little monster of a lyric. The reviews are good! Now the only question is, do I risk putting out another one before ‘Just After Sunset’ and possibly have it bomb – or do I just wait until ‘Just After Sunset’ is released? I’m really, really excited for ‘Just After Sunset’ to come out…I almost can’t wait that long! But don’t worry….I will, haha!
Goodnight! Or, morning….or whatever the hell it is.
